Josey
Hello, I’m Josey! I am the lead mare and the oldest of our herd. I am a quarter horse and live here at Longshadows Ranch and keep all the other horses in line. I like to roll on my back to give it a good scratch and my favorite food is the fresh green grass. Sometimes, I will eat a watermelon or two.
Your monthly sponsorship helps me eat a special food for a horse my age and it helps keep my barn warm and dry. I am a quiet and gentle horse, and love getting a hug and getting brushed. And, I am the best horse for giving little ones rides in the paddock!
Description
Josey is in her late 20s and is a very kind and gentle horse. She is a brown quarter horse and is treated as the lead mare by our herd. She is amazing with all ages and will stand in place for hours being loved on. She enjoys getting groomed and getting treats. Some of Josey’s favorite treats are carrots and apples. She is older and has trouble gaining weight so we give her senior feed. It is more nutritious and better suited for older horses. In the morning and evening, around feeding time, Josey will let us know she’s hungry by nickering at us and banging her food bin on the fence. Josey is only ride-able for little kids (under 10) because of her age and muscle strength.

* The sponsor a pet program is a monthly subscription. You can choose the amount of your sponsorship, although we do have a minimum of $5. Josey’s costs are higher because she needs a senior feed with more nutrition. There are multiple sponsors per animal and overflow funds go toward our internship programs.
